Preserve the natural joint whenever medically reasonable, using precise orthopedic diagnosis, orthobiologics, rehabilitation and the least invasive treatment appropriate.
Traditional orthopedics often focuses on what operation should be performed. At Scheinberg Orthopedic Group, we begin with a different question: can this joint be preserved?
Dr. Scheinberg spent decades performing orthopedic surgery. That experience now provides the foundation for determining which patients may benefit from a less invasive approach, and which patients truly need surgery. Our philosophy: accurate diagnosis first. Joint preservation whenever appropriate. Referral for surgery when it is necessary.
We evaluate patients with arthritis, cartilage damage, tendon and ligament injuries and other orthopedic conditions who want to remain active and explore alternatives before proceeding with major surgery.
Orthobiologic procedures are performed with careful attention to anatomy and accurate placement of the biologic preparation.
Not every patient is a candidate for orthobiologics. A proper orthopedic evaluation is essential.
When a patient qualifies for BMAC or stem cell therapy after other non-surgical options have been considered, the procedure is performed at Pueblo Surgery Center, an AAAHC-accredited facility on the same campus as the office.
About Pueblo Surgery Center →Orthobiologics come after conservative care has been tried, and before surgery.
Most patients arrive with their imaging and have already tried physical therapy or steroid injections. Dr. Scheinberg reviews your history, your imaging and your goals. Patients outside the area can start with a telemedicine consultation.
Physical therapy and viscosupplementation come before orthobiologics. If they have not been tried yet, they are the starting point.
When the basic treatments have not worked, PRP or BMAC is considered before surgery. BMAC is performed at Pueblo Surgery Center, the AAAHC-accredited facility on the same campus as the office.
If preserving the joint is not a reasonable option, you are referred for surgical care.
PRP and BMAC are tools within a larger joint-preservation plan, not the plan itself.

A concentration of your own platelets, used as part of an orthobiologic treatment strategy for selected joint, tendon and ligament conditions.

Concentrate obtained from your own bone marrow and used in carefully selected orthopedic conditions as part of an individualized joint-preservation program.

For selected patients, Dr. Scheinberg may recommend a combination approach based on the diagnosis, imaging, severity of disease and individual treatment goals.
Knee replacement is an important operation. It should not necessarily be the first option.
For patients with knee arthritis, meniscal pathology, cartilage deterioration or persistent knee pain, we evaluate whether the natural knee may reasonably be preserved before considering joint replacement. The evaluation considers:
Patients with rotator cuff disease, partial tendon tears, arthritis and other shoulder problems may have options short of major surgery.
Dr. Scheinberg's experience treating shoulder disorders lets him weigh both sides: what can reasonably be treated biologically, and when surgical treatment remains the better choice.

If you have been told you need a knee or shoulder replacement but would prefer to preserve your natural joint, a consultation can help determine whether another reasonable option exists. Sometimes the answer will be yes. Sometimes replacement remains the best treatment.
